Mission of True Love and Action is a Detroit nonprofit creating pathways to opportunity for children and young women through education, mentorship, leadership development, and service.

Our college and career readiness programs help youth understand the admissions process and become confident decision-makers. Students learn about admissions terms, application requirements, deadlines, recommendations, essays, campus visits, standardized tests, and financial aid.

We also help youth understand tuition, fees, grants, loans, work-study, and scholarships while teaching them how to compare financial aid offers and identify additional funding opportunities.

Mentorship is central to this work. Through group sessions, peer circles, and adult mentors, youth receive trusted support as they plan for college, prepare applications, and make important educational decisions.

The goal is more than completing applications. Students develop confidence, self-advocacy, informed decision-making, and leadership skills they can carry into college and future careers.

Step 2: Expanding Horizons Through Career Exploration and Exposure

College preparation is only part of the journey. Young people also need to understand the careers and opportunities they are preparing for.

We help youth explore their interests, values, and strengths and connect them with career possibilities in health care, education, technology, skilled trades, public service, and other fields.

Students learn that success does not follow one path. Four-year colleges, certificates, apprenticeships, associate degrees, and career and technical education can all lead to skilled work, advancement, and leadership.

Internships, job shadowing, and mentorship provide real-world exposure. Youth gain insight into workplace expectations, communication, problem-solving, career advancement, and different definitions of success.

Mission of True Love and Action also incorporates global cultural exchange. Youth in Detroit connect with peers in Ghana and other regions to discuss education, careers, and community leadership. These experiences broaden perspectives, build empathy, and challenge limiting beliefs.
