The organization’s impact extends beyond mentoring
MOT-LA supports a K–8 school, a school serving students who are hearing impaired, an orphanage, and families experiencing hardship. Through school supplies, educational resources, personal-care items, financial assistance, and other forms of direct support, MOT-LA helps address immediate needs while creating hope and opportunity.
MOT-LA also promotes cultural understanding by building meaningful connections between individuals and communities in Detroit and Ghana. These relationships encourage participants to learn from one another, develop a broader worldview, and recognize the power of service and global collaboration.
The impact of MOT-LA is rooted not only in the assistance it provides but also in the relationships it builds. Through consistent mentoring, educational encouragement, leadership development, and compassionate support, MOT-LA is helping girls recognize their potential and prepare for brighter futures. The organization demonstrates that when love becomes action, lives, families, and communities can be transformed.

Monica Thompson
A Journey of Love, Service, and Global Connection
Mission of True Love and Action was born from founder Monica Thompson’s meaningful journey to Ghana, where her experiences inspired a deeper vision for connecting communities, creating educational opportunities, and empowering young people to see new possibilities for their futures. What began with a desire to connect schools across communities grew into a broader mission: creating lasting opportunities through mentorship, education, leadership development, cultural exchange, and family support.
Through MOT-LA, Monica is helping build meaningful connections between Detroit, Ghana, and communities around the world. Her vision is rooted in the belief that when young people receive guidance, encouragement, education, and opportunities to lead, they are better prepared to shape their futures and strengthen the communities around them. Today, Monica leads MOT-LA with a commitment to service and a clear purpose—to help children, young women, and families access opportunities that can create lasting change.
Her story is the beginning. Our collective action carries the mission forward.
